Brew Crew wins 4th straight

The Brewers took game one of their 3-game series against the Royals on Friday night to extend their win streak to 4 games. The Brewers collected 14 hits in the 11-6 victory.

Some of the highlights:

* Brewers’ rookie third-baseman Ryan Braun outslugged Royals’ rookie third-baseman Alex Gordon…but both showed they are ready to contribute to their respective clubs–Braun went 4-for-4, including a homer and a double, and drove in three…while Gordon was 2-for-4 with a double and scored two.
* Former Brewer Jorge De La Rosa hurled for the Royals and took the loss, while former Royal Jeff Suppan hurled for the Brewers and got the win…but neither were overwhelming: De La Rosa allowed 7 ER in 5 IP, while Suppan allowed 5 ER in 5 IP…both allowed a pair of walk apiece, but De La Rosa won the K battle, 6 to 5.
Again, Ned Yost left in his starter a bit too long–Suppan took a 6-2 lead with him into the top of the 5th, and gave up 3 runs, all earned, to let the Royals back into the ball game. Carlos Villanueva came in and fanned 4 of the 6 outs in the 6th and 7th, but why does Yost continue to focus on his starters eating up innings, even if it means giving up a few more runs…I watched part of the 5th and Suppan’s pitches were flailing everywhere–after 3 strikes and a ball to DeJesus, Suppan gave up back-to-back singles, then a sac fly, and a walk before giving up a double.
Anyway, Dave Bush gets the start tonight in what is likely to be the second-to-last chance to prove he belongs in the rotation ahead of Yovani Gallardo, as one of the two will get bumped once Chris Capuano returns from his groin injury.
