Brand New Blue – Ty Conklin

New Blue – Ty Conklin

The free agency period caused a flurry of transactions around the NHL this past week. The Blues remained mostly quiet, only making a few transactions and bringing in just one new player thus far. This move answered who will serve as the #2 behind Mason heading into the 2009-10 season. Lets take a look at the newest member of the Blues.

The 33-year-old Conklin served as a backup in Detroit last season, compiling a 25-11 record and a 2.51 GAA in 40 games played. Conklin has played across the NHL, putting in limited time with Edmonton, Columbus, Buffalo and Pittsburgh. He has a solid career line, with 149 games played with 73 wins while putting together a 2.58 GAA and a save percentage of .909%.

The Blues needed a reliable #2 so that Mason can get regular days off throughout the season. Mason is still the clear #1, but Conklin give the Blues an option they are confident in if Mason needs a rest.
