Blues Finally Arrive from Sweden

davidperronDid you hear that? Blues fans everywhere just collectively sighed with relief. Starting a long series of games at home, the Blues dismantled the Vancouver Canucks last night to the tune of 6 to 1. Several Blues players turned in breakout performances, and the game featured some major skirmishes as well as Big Macs for all those in attendance. Welcome back from Sweden St. Louis Blues. Glad you could finally show up.

Welcome to the 2009-10 season Brad Boyes. Held mostly in check the majority of the team’s first 15 games, Boyes erupted along with the Blues last night, scoring a goal and adding three assists for four points on the night. Boyes needed to get his season going and last night might be just what he needs to start lighting the lamp on a regular basis.

Despite Boyes’ four point night, the star of the game was David Perron, who scored three goals for the Blues’ first hat trick of the season. Perron’s seven goals now lead the team on the season, and his 11 total points tie him with Andy McDonald and Erik Johnson for the team lead.

Erik Johnson recorded his first goal of the season, as well as an assist to give him 10 helpers on the young season.

The contest was a physical one, as multiple fights broke out during this one. Cam Janssen was involved in two scraps, and put on quite a show for his hometown fans. 44 total penalty minutes for the St. Louis side while Vancouver earned a whopping 68 minutes in the box.

This six goal performance could not have come at a better time. The win pushes Blues ahead of their Central division rival Nashville and the Blues now have 16 points through 16 games, and more importantly, finally put on a solid display in front of the home fans. The win also elevated the team to 12th in the Western Conference, with games in hand on seven of the 11 teams in front of them in the standings.

The home stand continues Thursday as the Blues have an important matchup against Nashville. Hopefully the team can use the explosion of offense last night and channel it on a more regular basis.

Blues fans everywhere feel a lot better after the Vancouver game, but there are many more points right for the taking this week and the Blues need to start anew Thursday against the Predators.
