The Angels are pretty awful and have been for all but a week or so this season. With the A’s coming into Anaheim to play a three-game set over the weekend, the Angels need to find their game — and quickly — as they risk falling further behind in the American League West. Duh, right?
Remember when the A’s were good? Remember when Billy Beane was a genius, who put together one of the most consistent franchises in sport; and on a shoestring budget? They wrote a book about it. These days, Billy Beane is remembered more for being a complete and total bust as a player rather than the statistical guru, who, year after year, shocked the baseball world by putting together division champion teams.
The A’s are ridiculous. Their stupid white cleats, obnoxious yellow and green uniforms and enthusiastic disregard for hygiene used to be hip and ironic when they were winning ninety-five games a year. The crusty beards, hemp necklaces and tattoos have lost their appeal. Nowadays this Oakland group looks more like a bunch of racist X-gamers.
Dallas Braden starts tonight for the A’s after tossing a perfect game in his last start. The story surrounding the game, Braden’s family, his grandma, Mother’s Day, etc… is a good one. In fact, granny Braden will be throwing out the first pitch at an upcoming A’s home game. Asked if she was nervous, granny replied, “Oh, heavens no. There are more people in my fruit preserves club than attend games in Oakland.”
Joe Saunders did not throw a perfect game in his last start. In fact, he has been atrocious in all but one of his starts this season.
Questionable Questions:
If Carl Crawford is so great, why has he never been a centerfielder?
Has a player ever hit into more line drive outs than Howie Kendrick has this year?
Will Prince Fielder hit slug his weight this year?
