The Carolina Panthers announced today that they have signed DE/LB Eric Norwood, a fourth round draft choice (124th overall) from the University of South Carolina.  Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Panthers Coach John Fox has said he’ll use Norwood at linebacker in passing situations and on special teams.

At USC, Norwood was a threetime All-SEC performer and finished as the USC career sack leader with 29.  Norwood posted seven sacks and 11.5 tackles for loss as a senior earning All-America honors.

Coach Fox also said this about Norwood –

“He’s relentless to the ball. He’s got a good first step in his pass rush. He’s built pretty strong,” Fox said. “Even though he might be a little short in stature, he’s pretty well put together and he’s got extremely good explosion.”

It is great to see Eric Norwood, a favorite of the USC fans, get his pay day.  It is well deserved and like we said when he was drafted so low in our view – Carolina got a steal as he will become a very good NFL player in the near future.
