Tigers Trade Scott Sizemore for David Purcey and Lose Their Sense of Reality

Finally, Scott Sizemore has been freed. The Tigers traded him to the Oakland A’s in exchange for left-handed pitcher David Purcey, who, by all accounts, seems to be a solid player when he’s not bending his arm at awkward angles.

David Purcey

He’s only a reliever, which isn’t as cool as my original thought that another starting pitcher would push Phil Coke back into the bullpen. Still, this isn’t the big story. Jim Leyland, who is actually starting to lose his mind, has named Ryan Raburn the starting 2nd baseman until further notice. Yes, this Ryan Raburn.

Maybe the thought is that Raburn can’t turn more running catches into home runs when he’s bumbling ground balls in the infield. Or that he might actually not strike out every other at bat. Either way, expect a lot of this in the near future.
