Odubel Herrera is headed to the MLB All-Star Game

.

The Philadelphia Phillies for what it’s worth, have been quite the surprise this MLB season. You can bet the organization had no idea that during last season’s Rule 5 draft, the team would nab a future all-star.

Today, the Phillies received word that center fielder Odubel Herrera will be the team’s lone representative at the 2016 MLB All-Star Game in San Diego, California. For Herrera, joining the National League All-Stars is no easy task, especially when your team isn’t playing at an elite level.

Herrera, who went into Tuesday’s game with 10 home runs on the season, has been one of the few offensive bright spots on a somewhat offensively challenged club.

“El Torito” as his teammates call him, feel like the honor of representing the team in San Diego is more than worth it. Currently, Herrera is hitting .303 and has recorded 32 RBI. He is also an efficient thief of the bag, nabbing 12 stolen bases on the season.

Herrera is a far cry of just the average player in a Phillies uniform. With the core of the team still very young and growing every game. Herrera has shown his worth and that he is on a higher tier than the rest. This is one of many all-star appearances in his future, I’m almost certain.
