The New York Jets under former head coach Rex Ryan were…an interesting bunch.
Fans knew those Jets as a defensive-minded team with little in the way of offensive prowess. The team would flirt with the playoffs most years, but mostly fell in line like everyone else behind the New England Patriots in the AFC East.
It turns out things were a little crazier than most would have guessed. Just take in a note from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport:
This a funny note, if not an odd one. One can understand hitting the club after a game. Before it, though, seems a little odd.
If the point is meant to illustrate Ryan’s influence as a coach, few can really argue—he’s 58-60 as a head coach, after all. This probably isn’t what Buffalo Bills fans want to hear with the team sitting third in the division at 4-5.
As for the Jets, it speaks to the job coach Todd Bowles has to do while turning around his team, which currently sits at 3-6. Given this backstory, it might be more difficult than originally thought.
