Labissiere plays well against the Lakers but it wasn't enough

The Sacramento Kings lost a close one to the Los Angeles Lakers 98-94 in a game that came down to the last two possessions.

“They threw us around in the paint and got 16 offensive rebounds,” Dave Joerger said. “We have to do a better job of protecting the rim.”

Skal Labissiere was the leading scorer for the Kings as he had 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field, making him the Reno Dodge Power Performer

Here are his top plays of the night broken down with video:

Skal Labissiere had quite a hot start to the game. In this play, you can see just that. Julius Randle came over pretty late as he went to help on Darren Collison. Also, Labissiere has proven that he can hit the mid range shot, which can make defenders second guess themselves, as you will see in the next play.

“I have to do a better job inbounding the ball,” Hield said. “I have to use my deception better.”

Larry Nance Jr. fell for the pump fake, as expected. With Labissiere’s great footwork, he was able to get to the basket. Notice also how Randle made no attempt to go and help.

His finishing around the basket has been worthy of notice for over the course of the season. In this play, he did a great job of shielding his defender with his body to get a quality shot at the rim.

He does not shoot that many 3-pointers, in fact, he hasn’t shot more than one attempt a game. In this play, his defender assumed that we would put the ball down and take it to the basket.

Defense to offense in the blink of an eye. After making a huge block on one end, Labissiere ran the floor, and got rewarded by Ben McLemore. Randle also made no attempt to get back and cover Labissiere at all, and he took the opportunity.

Tomorrow, the Kings will be at home to take on the Houston Rockets.
