Rudy Gay will opt-out of his contract

Rudy Gay will opt out of his contract with the Sacramento Kings and become a free agent, according to Marc Spears of ESPN. Despite suffering an Achilles tendon tear midway through last season, Gay is confident he will land a big payday this summer due to his fast recovery time.

I’ve said multiple times on the CK Podcast that this would happen sooner rather than later and Gay went through with it today. He has been a consummate professional during his tenure in Sacramento and even though he hasn’t ruled out the idea of returning to the Kings, don’t bank on his return because he wants to play for a playoff contender, and the Kings are not there yet.

The Kings once again have a gaping hole at Small Forward, which is why the top two prospects in the upcoming draft will need to work out in Sacramento. The front office needs to do everything they can to convince their agents to allow Jayson Tatum and Jonathan Isaac to workout with the organization.
