Game 45 Recap: Devils Thrash Islanders 5-2

chargers-fans

The New Jersey Devils continue to take steps in the right direction as they try to climb out of the hole they’ve dug for themselves in the NHL standings.

The Devils got goals by five players and 27 saves from Martin Brodeur as they beat the New York Islanders 5-2 on Monday, giving them a 3-0-1 mark in their last four games, their best stretch all season. Lets just repeat that because that is just really sad!! The Devils have gone 3-0-1  in their last four games, their best stretch all season. Didn’t make me feel any better repeating it!!

Despite the small surge, the Devils are still last in the overall standings, six points behind the Islanders  and 24 points behind Atlanta for the last playoff spot in the East. The last 4 games have been nice but just a little too late.

Brodeur, who was rarely tested until midway through the second period, is now 8-18-1 this season –- but 45-25-6 all-time against the Isles, the most wins he’s had against any opponent.

The Devils got goals from Zharkov, Kovalchuk, Tedenby, Pelley and Zubrus.

It was a great effort by the team this afternoon but its over the course of the last 4 games I find myself wondering where this was all season long? If this is the result of trading Jamie Langenbrunner, then I wonder why it was done earlier on in the season. As a side note, Langs has 0 points in 3 games played for the Stars since the trade.

As a side note, if you like writing and want to write about the Devils, let me know as I am looking for some talented people to help out right here at Running With The Devils.
