Greetings, all. Time for the week in review!
We start off in Charlotte where the Monsters started the second half of their season. On Friday night the Monsters only needed one goal to secure the victory when, early in the second, Josh Anderson gathered a loose puck at the red line and was off to the races even with two checkers all over him for his 10th goal of the season.
In the rematch, the Monsters earned another win off goals that started midway through the first. Sonny Milano, in his first action since mid January, threaded the needle and found Nick Moutrey in front for a deflection and his fourth of the season. Early in the second, John Ramage scored his fourth when he fired a shot from the point. Later in the third period, Michael Chaput streaked down the side and fired a shot just above the circle to make it 3-0. The tiny Russian, Sergey Tolchinsky, scored his sixth of the season before Anderson completed his Gordie Howe Hat Trick when he launched the puck at his own circle to make it 4-1.
Kole Sherwood-London Knights

After going pointless in a game against Niagara, Kole picked up his 20th assist of the season against Owen Sound. In the third, with the Knights leading 3-0, Kole got the puck from behind the net and fired a shot that was stopped; but Aaron Berisha was able to corral the rebound and take a shot that trickled past the Attack’s goalie to make it 4-0 in a 5-0 Knights win.
Kole was held pointless in Sunday’s game against Sarnia – their first meeting since a brawl filled game last month.
Sam Ruopp-Prince George Cougars (WHL)
Season Stats 55GP 3-15-18 +21 86PIM
Sam and the Cougars were a busy group this week with four games that were all on the road. In a 7-0 win over Saskatoon, Sam picked up an assist on Aaron Boyd’s first goal to make it 1-0.
Sam went without a point the rest of the week.
Keegan Kolesar-Seattle Thunderbirds (WHL)
Season Stats 51GP 26-26-52 +8 89PIM
Keegan and the Tbirds opened last week against the Kamloops Blazers. Early in the first, Ethan Bear got the puck at the blueline, skated to the wall and found Keegan in the slot who hammered a one timer to make it 1-0 Birds. Keegan added another goal when, with the Birds leading 2-1 late in the third and an empty Blazers’ net, Ryan Gropp hit the puck off the wall and Keegan chased after it to negate the icing call and score into the empty net for his 26th goal of the season. Keegan would be held without a point in the team’s last two games of the week.
Zach Werenski-Michigan (BIG 10)
Season Stats 23GP 6-13-19 +7 12PIM
Zach and the Wolverines took on Michigan State in a weekend series that started on Friday in the Joe. In “The Duel in the D”(no, seriously) matchup the winner received “The Iron D Trophy”(again, seriously). In the 3-2 overtime loss, Zach was held without a point.
In the rematch at Munn Ice Arena, Zach picked up another multi point game. In the first Zach got the puck at the blueline and almost instantly passed to D partner Joseph Ceconni. Ceconni fired a shot that was stopped but Justin Selman picked up the rebound for his first of the night and ninth of the season. Early in the third, Zach showed his skill when, in his own zone, he found Tyler Motte behind three Spartans who blew past them and scoring his 25th of the season. The Wolverines would win the game 4-1.(Another angle/commentary).
Markus Soberg-Valerenga (GET-Ligaen)
Season Stats 5GP 1-2-3 -2 6PIM
Markus opened last week by picking up an assist in a 4-3 win over Storhamar which gave him a three game point streak in Norway.
Markus’ point streak was snapped in a loss to Lorenskog IK.
