2014’s Breakthrough Actress Of The Year: Shailene Woodley

When you look back at all the breakout actresses of 2014, one name stands out. Shailene Woodley.

Woodley,who at the age of 23, cemented herself as an A-list Hollywood actress this past year.

Woodley was featured in two of the year’s more popular films. Her role as Tris in Divergent has gained her a following amongst the teen and young adult crowd, similar to what The Hunger Games did for Josh Hutcherson.

In addition, she also starred in the movie adaptation of The Fault In Our Stars, which showcased Woodley’s more dramatic side. It took Woodley a great deal of work to achieve her new-found success.

Growing up in Simi Valley, California, Woodley was doing commercials at the age of four. Her first role came in 1999, the actress was nine, in Replacing Dad. Setbacks occurred when she was diagnosed with idiopathic scoliosis at the of age 15, but she made a full recovery.

The role which put her on the map was her portal of Amy on the ABC Family series, The Secret Life Of The American Teenager. The show was a hit for the network and it helped land Woodley her first big film role three years later when she stared opposite George Clooney in The Descendants, winning the 2012 MTV Breakthrough Performance Award as a result.

Woodley has quite the upcoming lineup of films, such as the 2015 Divergent sequel, Insurgent and an upcoming Oliver Stone picture set for release in 2016.

All of this is capped off by the finale of the Divergent series, Allegiant Part One and Two, set to be released in 2016 and 2017, shows that the future is bright for Woodley, as she is well on her way to Hollywood stardom.
