As if the start of the regular season wasn’t exciting enough, news is breaking out everywhere the the Bruins and Chara are about to sign an extension that would keep Chara in black and gold through his 40th birthday.
“Contract terms have not been released by the Bruins, but based on a conversation just minutes ago with his Wellesley-based agent, Matt Keator, Chara today will ink a six- or seven-year deal that probably will bring him slightly less than his existing deal, which this season will pay him $7.5 million.
”Yes,” said Keator, reluctant to speak to the exact terms of the pact. ”It’s all but done…but like I said [Friday], not an easy negotiation, for many reasons. So many factors went into it…length of term, money, of course…and then everything that’s happening around the league with long-term deals and the chance of another work stoppage in two years. But this will make Zee very happy. He’s said all along Boston is the only place he wants to be, he’s committed to bringing the Cup to Boston, and he’s going to be around for a very long time in hopes of making that happen.” “
This would be great news, especially combined with the Bergeron signing. Boston brass is busy overseas and we’re excited! Go Bruins!
