Vivek Ranadivé has found his man to usher in a new era of Sacramento Kings basketball.  Mike Malone is reportedly set to become the Kings’ next head coach.  Sam Amick of USA Today Sports joins us to break down how Malone ended up in the capital city.  Also on this week’s podcast, former Kings center Olden Polynice stops by to discuss his NBA coaching aspirations and his days in the purple and black.

Excerpts

Amick on Kings’ hiring of Malone:

Not that Vivek would share this with us, but I’d venture to say that he’s had his mind made up for a long, long time that if he could get Michael to come, then he would.  That, I think, is the beginning of a good partnership.

Polynice on how he’d try to help DeMarcus Cousins:

One of the things that I can offer him is I know where he’s going and I can relate to him on so many levels.  And that’s the biggest asset that I have because a lot of times as athletes we think we’re superhuman, we’re above-the-law, we’re this and that.  And at the end of the day, we’re not.  It doesn’t matter if you have an argument with a coach or have a problem with a coach, you can’t undermine a coach.  Because I know I’ve done that – I didn’t undermine, but I’ve argued with coaches and it served no good purpose at the end of the day.  Even if I was right, I’m still wrong.  And so those are things that I would share with him.  Even though you might think you’re right, and you might be right, at the end of the day, you’ll still be wrong.  It’s stuff like that, young fella’s gotta understand.
