FANTASY MLS FOR XI: NO TIME TO HEEL

7072078-590x400

This week’s MLS Fantasy selections are already complicated with the All-Star Game, the USOC, the Gold Cup, and upcoming byes. Now, all of the fantasy managers can only focus on one thing: the foot of one Atomic Ant. With Sebastian Giovinco listed as “day-to-day” from an ongoing heel injury, we’re all left wondering whether or not Gio is going to even travel to New England. So, it’s no surprise that this was the most-asked question this week:

“Is Giovinco playing?”

Unfortunately, we don’t know the answer to that… yet. The best advice I can give you is to follow @KurtLarSUN. He’ll be one of the first to know. You have until Saturday afternoon to make your transfers, so if possible, wait until Saturday morning to make a decision.

“@rvbfit: Bingham vs. POR or Irwin vs. LAG this week for fantasy?”

I don’t really like either of those options for keeping a clean sheet, but if I had to go with one, it’d be Irwin. LA hasn’t scored two goals away since week 13.

“@__Deadeye: Captain Benny or Captain Villa?”

That’s a toss-up, but I’m leaning toward David Villa in the tiny home pitch.

“@EricWSoccer: Will LA finally break out of their road disaster or should I drop Keane/Lletget?”

I don’t see LA going crazy this weekend, but I wouldn’t count out a goal from the visitors. If you have an extra transfer to use, you may consider dropping Keane for Villa or Larin. Lleglet is one of the best value midfielders available right now, so I’d keep him regardless.

“mcvdb: Kevin Ellis, starter this week vs HOU?”

He should be. As far as I know, the only reason Ellis wasn’t played was due to rotation.

“@EricWSoccer: Diaz (hot streak, but BYE coming up) or Piatti (DGW next week)?”

Piatti. Double-game week, and he’s been doing relatively well, too.

“@SeanRingrose: Do you expect those player who played in ASG to get limited minutes this weekend?”

Not really — no one at the ASG played more than 45 minutes, and there weren’t any injuries mentioned from the game.

“@ssnyder467: Sjoberg’s expected return to lineup?”

That one I can’t help with. I haven’t heard anything about Sjoberg, just that he’s been out dealing with a knee injury. Injury news is tough to come by.

“@rvbfit: Need 4, who is benched? Castillo, Sam, Maidana, Nemeth, Poku”

Before last week, I would’ve said Poku. Wait until the NYCFC lineup comes out, and if Poku’s on the bench, I’d leave him out. If he’s in the starting XI, I’d probably pick Lloyd Sam next.

Best of luck to everyone!
