Four statues adorn the grounds outside AT&T Park in San Francisco, but later this year…a fifth will be added.
Monday, the Giants announced that a statue of Gaylord Perry would be joining those of fellow Hall of Famers Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Orlando Cepeda and Juan Marichal.
“We’re not letting anyone know what the pose will be,” said Mario Alioto, the team’s executive vice president of business operations. “We think it’s going to be striking.”
Perry spent ten seasons in The City by the Bay, starting 283 games and completing 125. In 1968, the righty threw a no-hitter against the St. Louis Cardinals. While his 134 career victories with the Giants is eleventh in the team’s history, Perry is second behind only Marichal’s 238 when it comes to pitchers who played in San Francisco.
The team will unveil the Perry statue August 13, prior to the Giants taking on the Baltimore Orioles.
