Hornets Struggle in Lakerland; Lose 107 – 92

Any of our return readers have probably heard me reference at some point that Charlotte sometimes have Ice Age quarters.  Back when they were notoriously known as the Bobcats, it would happen more often than not.  Well, though the name has changed to the Hornets, and the teal and purple are finally home, we keep having “Bobcats” nights early in the season.  I don’t mean that in a good, throwback, kind of way.  They can’t have a 51-point half and shoot with the accuracy that they were shooting with, and then have a second half like they had.  It just pains me to watch games when they play like this.  I’ve seen it all, and with the talent level we have on this team now, I thought the Ice age would be a thing of the past.  I’m sure it will be as we are still at the very beginning of the season.  Patience…

At one point in the 3rd quarter, the Lakers were shooting 71% in that quarter to the Hornets 38%.  Point blank shots continue to be missed, along with too many passes and poor decision making.  We scored 13 points in the 3rd.  13 points!?!  Oh yeaTo make matters worse, we gave the 0 -5 Lakers their first win of the season.  I hate being that team.  It always sucks to be the team that becomes the stopping point for a team’s losing streak.  With Kobe and his false accusations of how the Hornets didn’t want him (check out his twitter account for the past year), I really wanted the return of the Hornets to Lakerland to be a loss for the Lakers.  Oh well.

Wondering how an 0-5 team beat our now 3-4 Hornets?  Well, when you allow 51% shooting, don’t expect to win.  Most nights, 23 points from Al and 17 from Kemba will pave the way for a victory, but with only 15 assists and 39 rebounds for the team, there was no opportunity for a victory.  That’s what’s has led the way for us in all of our victories.

The Lakers shot 51%?!?  Where is the defense from last season?  Maybe the game against the Hawks really drained the guys emotionally as well as physically.  Maybe it was jet lag?  Maybe our defense and rebounding was lost, like luggage on the flight out west.  Whatever it was, the guys have to regroup and play like they are able to play because they face the Portland Trailblazers on Tuesday.  Hopefully the defense and rebounding shows up for that game.  It’s going to be a rough trip if we continue to play like we did last night.

Rest up and get ready for Tuesday.

Let’s Go Hornets!
