R.i.P. Merlin Olsen

It was announced today that Hall of Fame defensive lineman Merlin Olsen of the Los Angeles Rams “Fearsome Foursome” passed away today. The cause of death was complications from mesothelioma.

Olsen was known as a ferocious player on the field and a gentle giant off the field. Following his playing days, he was known for this time on television. He was a NBC analyst who I remember as a kid calling games with the legendary Dick Enburg. He also did multiple commercials, including FTD florists.

Olsen’s mesothelioma was brought on by exposure to asbestos.

Rest in peace to a deserved Hall of Fame member and class act.
