After getting swept in Kansas City, the Cleveland Indians responded with a clean three-game sweep at home of the Chicago White Sox that kept the Tribe in first place by a half game in the American League Central Division.

The White Sox series provided two dramatic walk-off hits to propel Cleveland (38-30) to victories along with a huge 13-2 win on June 18. Any bad taste leftover from getting swept in Kansas City (38-31) was eliminated quickly with some home cooking in Cleveland.

The return of Juan Uribe was a key component during the Tribe’s play at home as he went 5-for-9 and hit two home runs in the final two games of the White Sox series that leaves the Indians 0.5 games ahead of the Royals.

Rajai Davis was also huge for the Tribe as he went 4-for-5 on June 19 including a leadoff double that eventually led to the game-winning run. In his last 15 games, Davis has really begun to pick it up at the plate and on the basepaths. He’s slashing .304/.371/.464 with nine stolen bases during that span and is making the case that he should be the everyday leadoff hitter.

Tyler Naquin continues to play well after his return from Columbus and nearly hit for the cycle on June 18. He’s slashing .300/.391/.550 in his last seven games. Perhaps he’ll start to get some appearances against lefties – maybe in place of Lonnie Chisenhall.

The Indians will now wrap up their six-game homestand with three games against Tampa Bay with each game starting 7:10 p.m. June 20 through June 22. After an off day on June 23, the Tribe will hit the road to Detroit to start a 10-game road trip. The games in Detroit will start at 7:10 p.m. on June 24, 4:10 p.m. on June 25 and 1:10 p.m. on June 26.

Josh Tomlin (8-1, 3.27 ERA) gets the start on June 20 while the Rays will counter with lefty Drew Smyly (2-7, 4.75 ERA). Smyly was effective in his last start on June 15 against Seattle when he threw 6.2 innings and gave up four hits and two runs while striking out 12.

Tomlin pitched seven innings in his last start on June 14 against Kansas City and gave up seven hits and one run while striking out five in a no-decision.

Corey Kluber (6-7, 4.23 ERA) takes the mound on June 21. Blake Snell (0-1, 2.16 ERA) will gets the nod for the Rays. In his last appearance on June 16, Snell gave up eight hits in 3.1 innings while giving up one run, walking three and striking out three to earn the loss.

Kluber looks to bounce back from his last appearance on June 15 when he pitched five innings and gave up nine hits and eight runs while walking one and striking out seven.

Trevor Bauer (4-2, 3.46 ERA) gets the start for the Indians on June 22. Tampa will counter with Chris Archer (4-9, 4.60 ERA). Archer pitched six innings in his last start against San Francisco on June 17 and gave up three runs and six hits, while walking three and striking out seven to take the loss.

Bauer looks to continue his recent success and pitched seven innings on June 17 against the White Sox when he gave up just four hits and one run while walking three and striking out nine.

Neither the Indians or Tigers have announced starters for the weekend series in Cleveland.

Who’s HotWho’s Not

Super utility player Michael Martinez has actually been hitting pretty well this season as he’s slashing .327/.340/.449 for the season. In his last 15 games, Martinez is slashing .379/.400/.483 in 29 at-bats.

Francisco Lindor has been on fire lately and is hitting .400 in his last seven games. He’s got 15 hits in 40 at-bats and has an .500 OBP and is slugging .600 during that span.

Mike Napoli has slumped lately and is slashing just .154/.233/.269 in his last seven games. He’s just 4-for-28 during that span and has struck out eight times.

Jason Kipnis also has seen a downturn in his production as he’s slashing only .214/.290/.429 with just six hits in 28 at bats and has struck out nine times.
