The odds for the highly anticipated meeting between the Cincinnati Bearcats and Virginia Tech Hokies was released yesterday. It opened at -6, moved as high as -7, but right now it stands at -6.5 in favor of Virginia Tech. That seems about right for a practical road game at Virginia Tech. I don’t remember what the spread was when UC went to Tennessee last year, but I imagine it was in the same realm. Hopefully this one will go better.
The game is at 3:30 on ESPNU. It’s also available on watchespn.com. We know what a horrible time that was for the Delaware St game and what a horrible time it’s going to be for the next 2 weeks after this one, so I recommend that you find ESPNU. The horror stories from Louisville fans over the quality of the Florida International game should scare all of us.
If rankings are important to you, you should know that UC is not ranked in either poll. They are the 12th team receiving votes from the AP, behind such teams as Michigan, Arizona, and Wisconsin. The Bearcats are 30th in the coaches poll. Virginia Tech is ranked 25th in the coaches poll. They are 30th in the AP. Va Tech is coming off a blowout win over Bowling Green.
Speaking of rankings, it’s time for the first posted blogpoll rankings of the year. Number 1 has been Alabama and will probably stay Alabama all season. The rest of the top 5 is Florida St, Oregon, Kansas St and LSU. I hammered LSU very hard, but they were not impressive, while FSU, Oregon and K State all posted impressive Ws over ranked teams. The biggest jumpers were the teams ranked 6 and 7, Notre Dame and South Carolina. You can’t ignore the quality of wins ND has. I underrated South Carolina very much. You’ll notice that I separated the undefeated and 1 loss teams. Eventually teams will lose and the 1 loss teams will move up.
Arizona, UCLA, Michigan and Oklahoma St are out. Ok State just because I put more undefeated teams in. Oregon St, Rutgers, Northwestern, Ohio and Baylor are new.
