What other teams’ fans are talking about in the NFL Free Agent arena today…

9

Sorry for the brief hiatus in posting… I was on bluehair duty… Moms is lonely and missing Pops… so I took her for a drive through Dutchie country…Lancaster… she loved it. And on the drive I played for her a CD of great pop singles from the ’50’s… Some of that stuff was actually pretty good. Billy Eckstine…the Andrews Sisters… Perry Como…Patti Page… Frankie Lane…and I heard Les Paul on guitar on some of the back-tracks… Hey, that guy was the original Eddie Van Halen!

Moms asked me, “What is your Eagles blog about?”… I told her it’s really about the great posting that comes from the congregation… She said “That sounds like church”… I said “It kinda is…”

I belong to the Church of Eagles football.  There’s no way around it. But it is also about believing in the sound direction of a league of 31 other sects… the NFL is the Vatican, but there are 32 individual and provincial “orders” of the ordained, each with their own particular mission which seeks excellence.

So pinched for a deadline, I turned to a guy who writes under the name of “One.Cool.Customer.” for SB Nation.com…

He provided me with a punch-list of links which represents a global view of what almost everyone in the league is talking about regarding their individual team concerns right now.  Here’s what that wild list looks like:

NFC East

Eagles: DeSean Jackson Is More Valuable Than You Think – Bleeding Green Nation
No he isn’t. He’s just being paid more than he’s worth.

Giants: Giants Potential Free Agent Target: WR Steve Smith – Big Blue View
Well, I guess that’s an option. Especially since Manningham said he wouldn’t re-sign with the Giants: Said Manningham: “I just want to go to somebody good that I can compete for the Super Bowl again.” Apparently, that rules out the Giants.

Redskins: Does This Video Of Peyton Manning Throwing Change Your Opinion Of Him Signing With The Redskins? – Hogs Haven
When the Redskins think it’s a good idea to hand out humongous free agent contracts, I am always in agreement. 100%.

NFC North

Packers: Matt Flynn Awaits The Franchise Tag Deadline On Monday – Acme Packing Company
Whatever happened to make a guy who couldn’t beat out JaMarcus Russell in four college years such a hot commodity?

Lions: Titans To Franchise Cortland Finnegan? – Pride Of Detroit
No.

Bears: Were Bears Players Targeted In Saints Bounty Fund? – Windy City Gridiron
Looks like everybody and their uncle suddenly is feeling slighted, even Bears fans. One thing’s for sure, you wouldn’t want to be a Saints player next season – everybody is going to be gunning for you.

Vikings: Would The Minnesota Vikings Have Beaten The Indianapolis Colts In Super Bowl XLIV? – Daily Norseman
Yeah, right. Captain Hindsight wears purple this week.

NFC South

Saints: Saints Place Franchise Tag on Drew Brees – Canal Street Chronicles
I guess any news is good news during “Bounty Fest”, even if it does mean that WR Marques Colston and Pro Bowl OG Carl Nicks will hit free agency.

Falcons: Brent Grimes Won’t Sign His Franchise Tender. Now What? – The Falcoholic
How much would you be willing to fork over in a trade for Grimes?

Panthers: Past to Present: Julius Peppers vs. Quinton Coples – Cat Scratch Reader
A Panthers website compares former Panther Julius Peppers to Quinton Coples and concludes they “wouldn’t recommend taking a high risk prospect such as Coples at No. 9”. Hmmm…

Bucs: How important is defense? – Bucs Nation
For a last-place team, very.

NFC West

49ers: Ahmad Brooks Contract: More Details On The 49ers’ Complicated Deal – Niners Nation
When reports initially emerged of this deal, it was taken as a possible (negative) template of a possible deal with the Cowboys‘ Anthony Spencer. The breakdown provided here suggests that a similar deal for Spencer would actually be quite a good deal for the Cowboys.

Cardinals: NFL Free Agency: Should The Arizona Cardinals Target Leonard Davis? – Revenge of the Birds
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha … Sniff, sniff … Bwahhh ha ha ha ha ha.

Seahawks: NFL Draft Risers: DE Melvin Ingram, South Carolina – Field Gulls
If you haven’t watched any film on Ingram yet, here’s your chance.

Rams: Tony Dungy says Titans had ‘Bounties’ too – Turf Show Times
Notice how everybody being implicated to “Bounty-gate” ultimately has ties to Buddy Ryan? … Wait … Forget I said anything.

AFC East

Patriots: Lookin’ for Love: Linebackers – Pats Pulpit
I’d say they may be looking for love in the wrong places.

Jets: Mark Sanchez Reaches Out to Chad Pennington – Gang Green Nation
If I was Sanchez, I’d reach out to just about anybody.

Dolphins: Is Harrison Smith Worthy of a First-Round Pick? – The Phinsider
They think he may be. A late one perhaps, but based on his playmaking ability, he might just slip into the first round.

Bills: GM Buddy Nix Approval Poll: March 2012 – Buffalo Rumblings
GM Buddy Nix has managed the Bills to three consecutive losing seasons and a combined 16-32 record in the process. Approval Rating: 74%! I hear that Jerry Jones has dispatched half the front office on a fact-finding mission to Buffalo when he saw these results.

AFC North

Ravens: Gregg Williams Had “Pay For Play” Fund With Redskins – Baltimore Beat Down
It really must be a slow news day if even the AFC teams are jumping all over this topic. Surprisingly this is already the third post about “Bounty-Gate” on this site.

Steelers: Remembering James Farrior, Aaron Smith, and Hines Ward – Behind the Steel Curtain
If you thought the Cowboys were an old team, you probably never looked at the Steelers‘ roster.

Bengals: What’s On Television: March 3, 2012 – Cincy Jungle
It’s a bit sad, really, but apparently College Basketbal, PGA and NASCAR are all big with NFL fans in Cincy.

Browns: Cleveland Browns Place Franchise Tag on K Phil Dawson Again – Dawgs By Nature
They franchised their kicker? For the second straight year? If I’m RGIII, I’d be very scared right now.

AFC South

Texans: Chris Myers Talks About Impending Free Agency – Battle Red Blog
I looked for any mention of Dallas or Cowboys or Jerry Jones. Nothing. Darn it.

Titans: Tony Dungy Says the Tennessee Titans Had a Bounty on Peyton Manning – Music City Miracles
This story isn’t going to go away for a while.

Jaguars: Franchise Tag – The Jaguars Kryptonite – Big Cat Country
Jaguars fans lament the Incredible Shrinking WR Free Agent Pool.

Colts: Video Of Peyton Manning Throwing At Duke Hits The Net – Stampede Blue
Peyton or Luck? Luck Or Peyton? Perhaps Peyton and Luck? Or Luck and Peyton? And to top it all off, an owner whose Tweets make Jerry Jones look like the President of the Harvard Speech & Parliamentary Debate Society.

AFC West

Chargers: Drew Brees and Philip Rivers – Bolts From The Blue
This article compares the contract negations both teams had with their quarterbacks and – Shocker! – concludes the Chargers handled the whole process better, with less noise, less publicity and less tagging.

Broncos: MHR Poll of the Week: Now onto Free Agency – Mile High Report
The MHR asks its readers, “What position do you want addressed in free agency?” To my great surprise, only 7% see a need at quarterback.

Raiders: Dennis Allen link to “Bountygate” to have ripple effect – Silver And Black Pride
“Bountygate” hits Oakland.

Chiefs: Brandon Carr Stands Out On The Free Agent Cornerback Market – Arrowhead Pride
Which is why Jerry Jones should get this guy to Dallas.

Nice job of aggregation there, One.Cool.Customer…. I notice he left his own home team (Dallas) out of the mix…but I can tell you, Dallas fans today are clamoring for the acquisition of a big-time cornerback like Brandon Carr, and this is alluded to in his comment on the Chiefs…
