Staying ahead of the curve

At UltimateNYG, we pride ourselves on providing thought provoking commentary.   At times, our critical analysis of the Giants could be perceived as negative.  This perception is misconstrued.

Yesterday, Andy’s post coincided with the thinking of an NFL expert Pat Kirwan.   Was this happenstance?  Was this purely a coincidence?  No.  Andy has a track record of staying ahead of the curve.   Take for example,  putting a spotlight on the inept Kevin  Gilbride, calling out Giants co-owner Steve Tisch, and having foresight on a star in the making, Terrell Thomas.  This is what UltimateNYG is about.

Speaking of cutting edge perspectives, newly acquired safety Deon Grant will be a team captain. Yes. You heard it here first. Deon Grant will be a key leader on the 2010 Giants.  While a member of the Seattle Seahawks,  after being on the team for only a few months, he was voted a captain. And this is one of the reasons the Giants signed Grant. Nevertheless, Giants GM Jerry Reese on acquiring Deon Grant: “We signed Deon Grant because, number one, he’s durable,” general manager Jerry Reese said. “He really hasn’t missed time. He’s a durable veteran who will bring depth and leadership to our safety position.”

After the Giants ended their miserable 2009 season, the dearth of leadership was questioned.  Giants co-owner John Mara who is in charge of the football operations decried, “I think there was a lack of leadership in the locker room this past season. I was disappointed that nobody emerged as a leader. I think some guys tried, I think a lot of guys have that in them. But for whatever reason, it didn’t come out this year.”

Mara’s statement was an indictment on this team.  Even Carl Banks made scathing remarks about the Giants lack of leadership.  According to Banks, the team had a lack of heart and pride.  Besides Grant, who will emerge this year as a leader?  Eli Manning. Justin Tuck. Brandon Jacobs.
