Joe Flacco, Ravens agree on extension

The Ravens and Joe Flacco came to terms on a three-year contract extension Wednesday, according to Pro Football Talk.

The move clears some cap space. Flacco’s contract, which he signed after the Ravens won the Super Bowl following the 2012 season, would have counted $28.55 million against the salary cap in 2016. The financial details of Flacco’s extension haven’t been released, but it makes the Ravens’ cap situation a little more favorable with the negotiating period for free agency beginning on Monday.

Baltimore made the playoffs in each of Flacco’s first five seasons, but has missed the playoffs in two of the three seasons since Flacco signed his contract. Flacco missed the last six games of the 2015 season with a torn ACL. The Ravens were 3-7 at the time.

With more cap space and Flacco signed through 2021, the Ravens can turn their attention toward beefing up the offensive line that protects Flacco was well as some secondary and pass-rushing help on the other side of the ball.
