Texans fan seeks donations to buy out Brock Osweiler’s contract

Houston Texans v Denver Broncos

Brock Osweiler’s four-year, $72 million contract might seem like a waste of money after his performance Sunday night in Denver.

Osweiler completed 22 of 41 passes and averaged a puny 3.2 yards per attempt in a 27-9 loss to his former team.

One Texans fan started a GoFundMe page to buy out Osweiler’s contract, according to NFL.com, urging their fellow Houston fans to chip in their online sportsbook bonuses to help out the team.

On the screenshot of NFL.com reporter Dan Hanzus’ Instagram page, $190 of the $72 million goal had been met.

Just to make that $72 million figure loom a little larger, Osweiler’s passer rating is 71.9. Just short of 72.0. Texans fans must be amused.

That rating is 42nd out of the 56 players who have thrown a pass in the NFL this season. All 14 players below him are either backups, demoted starters, promoted backups or non-quarterbacks.

At least the Texans (4-3) are unbeaten at home this year. If anything positive can be gleaned from Osweiler’s stats, it’s that his four worst games in terms of passer rating have come against defenses that rank in the top 11 in that category with three of those performances coming on the road.

Just about every quarterback will have bad games on the road against elite defenses, but for Osweiler to prove worthy of his contract, he’ll have to win those kinds of games every now and then.

If he ends up playing out his contract, it will be interesting to see how all that GoFundMe money will be used.
