Golden Knights red hot to start 2023-24

The Vegas Golden Knights are smoking hot at this time. How hot? Well, on Saturday they became the first reigning Stanley Cup champion in National Hockey League history to win their first six games of the following season according to Rogers Sportsnet. They accomplished that feat at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, where they beat the Chicago Blackhawks 5-3 on Saturday. Let’s take a look at their six wins so far.

Win over Seattle on opening night

On October 10, the Golden Knights beat the Seattle Kraken 4-1. Forwards Chandler Stephenson of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and Mark Stone of Winnipeg, Manitoba each led the Golden Knights with two points. Stephenson had one goal and one assist, and Stone had two assists.

Win over the Sharks

On October 12, the Golden Knights beat the San Jose Sharks 4-1. Once again, two Golden Knights players led the team in scoring with two points. Nicolas Hague of Kitchener, Ontario had one goal and one assist, and William Karlsson of Marsta, Sweden had two helpers.

Win over the Ducks

Things happen in threes, and on October 14, the Golden Knights won their third straight game by the 4-1 score line. This time it happened over Anaheim. Stephenson was the Golden Knights’s leading scorer in this one, as he had three points (one goal and two assists).

Tight win over Dallas

In a rematch of the 2022 Western Conference Final, the Golden Knights needed a shootout to beat the Dallas Stars 3-2. Karlsson had a multi-point game as he had one goal and one assist for two points. Defenseman Kaedan Korczak of Yorkton, Saskatchewan also had a multi-point game with one goal and one assist. Korczak’s goal was his first of his NHL career. Karlsson’s goal came with two minutes and 59 seconds left in the third period to tie the game at two. The Golden Knights who scored in the shootout were Shea Theodore of Langley, British Columbia, and Jonathan Marchessault of Cap-Rouge, Quebec.

Win over Winnipeg

The Golden Knights beat the Jets 5-3 on October 19 at the Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg. Theodore led Vegas with three points, as all three points were helpers. Jack Eichel of North Chelmsford, Massachusetts scored the game winning goal with four minutes and 36 seconds left in the third period to break a 3-3 deadlock.

Win over Chicago

In a game where first overall pick Connor Bedard made most of the headlines because he scored a goal in the Blackhawks’s regular season home opener, it was the Golden Knights that came away with a 5-3 win. Paul Cotter of Canton, Michigan and Michael Amadio of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario each had multi-point games. Cotter had one goal and one assist, and Amadio had two assists.
