Celtics in the Driver’s Seat

It’s been a hard fought battle, but the Boston Celtics now have sole possession of first place in the Eastern Conference. For the first time since November of 2015, someone other than the Cavaliers are leading the Eastern Conference.

This has been a combination of several things over the past few weeks. After the Celtics went on a tough road trip, things weren’t looking good. But the C’s managed to rally around the adversity and put together an impressive home stand. They have won 7 out of their last 8 and look to improve that record tomorrow night. On the flip side, the Cavaliers have been struggling mightily.

In the month of March, the Cavs are just 6-9. In their most recent game against the Spurs, they scored a season low 74 points. Lebron James had to leave the game after taking an elbow in the back. Kyrie Irving only managed to score 8 points. This was a team that came back against all odds in the Finals last year. Now they look like they’re falling apart.

Needless to say, these last few weeks will be some of the most exciting basketball to be played this year. The Celtics want the number one seed and it doesn’t seem like anyone can stop them at this point. Next week, the Cavs and Celtics will meet for the final time. Whoever wins that game could be in the driver’s seat for the playoffs. In today’s NBA that is a luxury that can pay dividends.
