Defensive Back Prospects to Workout with Rams Ahead of Draft

Aaron Murray

The Rams troubles at defensive back are still glaring even after signing Kayvon Webster and Nickell Robey Coleman. Yes, Lamarcus Joyner will be converting to safety in the wake of T.J. McDonald’s departure and there are a slew of safeties in the draft but it doesn’t hurt to explore all options. The defensive backs the Rams are hosting aren’t projected to be drafted very high if at all but it is interesting because it shows that Rams search for secondary help is casting a wide net.

That’s not a bad thing at all as they are probably going to draft primarily on the offensive side of the ball so they might not take a defensive back unless they were too good to pass up. Or this just might be a case of covering their bases and looking at bodies they can add should they not like their depth beyond the starters. After all, the Rams do posses a very young secondary so its no guarantee that their roster will look the same before or after training camp.

The three prospects also have California ties so if anything these defensive backs could make for a nice story should they succeed. The press always loves a good local spin on these types of stories but beyond that they all have potential to at least make the team. Former USC Trojan Leon McQuay could find his way on the team in a later round but it would be near the end of the draft.

While he isn’t as physical as scouts would’ve liked he stands at 6’1 giving their secondary much needed size and even though he primarily played corner he can easily move to safety. Tyquwan Glass played corner at Fresno State and his greatest asset is his speed which means if nothing else he could be a factor in the return game if the Rams decide its better to have Tavon Austin focus on being a receiver. Lastly, the Rams are also scheduled to with Damontae Kazee who played corner at San Diego St.

He might be small at 5’10 but had fifteen interceptions in college due to his speed and aggressiveness. All three of these guys would not only add some much needed depth in the secondary but could also be valuable on an already terrific special teams unit. It never hurts for a team to do their due diligence and who knows maybe one of these guy could end up being a diamond in the rough.
