The draft is one week a way and that means every team is second guessing players that they’ve been mocking at the top of their big boards and that means players thought to go in the first round could fall and vice versa. Its natural for teams to either leak fake news to drum up draft day trades or set up smoke screens in an effort to have a better shot at a player they otherwise wouldn’t. For the Rams this means that the 37th overall pick (2nd round) could actually yield a first round talent who gets lost in the shuffle.
37TH PICK (2ND ROUND)-COREY DAVIS WR WESTERN MICHIGAN
Mocking a wide receiver at this spot has been difficult. In subsequent weeks, the Rams have been linked to Curtis Samuel, Zay Jones , and others but now its looking like teams are falling out of love with Corey Davis. Davis is a skilled route runner with the ability to get corners out of coverage and has tremendous hands. At 6’3 he is a major asset in the red zone and possesses the type of leadership qualities a star wide receiver needs to succeed. If Davis does in fact fall to the Rams he would be the star receiver they’ve been looking for since losing Torry Holt.
69TH PICK (3RD ROUND)-MARCUS WILLIAMS SAFETY UTAH
The Rams lost T.J. McDonald to free agency and while Lamarcus Joyner is making the move to safety and Maurice Alexander is emerging, they still need depth at that position. Marcus Williams was tremendous in college and is adept tracking the quarterback’s moves, re-routing receivers, and tackling. Scouts have said he needs to add muscle but other than that he is primed to be a starting safety at the pro level.
112TH PICK (4TH ROUND)-DORIAN JOHNSON G PITTSBURGH
The Rams have found some excellent stop gap solutions on the offensive line but Greg Robinson most likely won’t be around next year even if he finds a place at guard. Dorian Johnson is an outstanding run blocker both off the line and down field. His footwork and ability to pull are impeccable.
141ST PICK (4TH ROUND)-RASUL DOUGLAS CB WEST VIRGINIA
Despite coming away with some solid talent at corner during free agency, the question mark surrounding Trumaine Johnson’s future mean that it might be time to find someone to compete for his job. Douglas is a tall corner at 6’2 who has excellent hands and can read the quarterback. He is great at making plays downfield and recognizing routes.
149TH PICK (5TH ROUND)-PAT ELFLEIN C OHIO STATE
He could be the starting center of the future and in the mean time play guard. He is a beast as a run blocker and is a locker room leader with tremendous athleticism and lower body strength.
189TH PICK (6TH ROUND)-DAMORE’EA STRINGFELLOW WR OLE MISS
Even though the Rams have spent a lot on Robert Woods and Tavon Austin more depth is needed at receiver. Stringfellow is a big body target who knows how to contort it in order to make a catch. He isn’t the fastest guy on the field but he can get open and track the ball anywhere on the field.
223RD PICK (7TH ROUND)-B.J. BELLOW OLB ILLINOIS ST.
Depth is needed at linebacker and Bellow would bring athleticism and downfield coverage.
234TH PICK (7TH ROUND)-KARTER SCHULT DE NORTHERN IOWA
Defensive end has become thin and Schult is an aggressive player and can make plays in the backfield.
We are near the end of the tunnel and next week there will be one more attempt at mocking the 2017 NFL Draft.
