Derrik Allen out of Georgia has committed to Notre Dame. The 6’1″, 205-pound defensive back announced tonight via twitter that he and his family have decided to shut it down and to choose Notre Dame. This one comes as a huge surprise to me, as I have been hearing positive intel on ND and Allen, but was not expecting a commitment so early. The Irish offered Allen back in March of last year and Allen was the staff’s top safety target which is huge news for the Irish. When Mike Elko was announced the defensive coordinator for Notre Dame, there was plenty of buzz surrounding Allen because of his close relationship with Elko who started recruiting Allen before leaving Wake Forest. Allen holds 34 offers from Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama and others.

Derrik is among the top 10 defensive backs in the country. He possess all the tools to be the next great for the Irish defense on the back end and the staff is looking to have him come in and play safety. Allen is a rare football player that will be able to cover anyone on the field at any of the safety positions. This is a absolutely monster get and start for Notre Dame and the 2018 class.
