The Boston Bruins squared off with the Buffalo Sabers Saturday night, on a very warm post Christmas evening. Tuukka Rask got the night off, letting Gustavsson take the first segment of two games in back to back nights. The game was very good back and fourth throughout the night, as in the first two periods the game had swayed both ways, but in the end the Sabers dominating the third period late down the stretch lead them to a 6-3 victory. However the way the final scoreline reads doesn’t properly portray the game at all. The Bruins were winning and controlling this game until the 10:21 mark in the third period. They were leading 3-1 until the Sabers scored and then rookie sensation Jack Eichel tied it up. The Sabers then dominated the third period scoring 3 unanswered goals following the previous two, totaling a -4 for the Bruins in the third period with a David Krejci goal early.

The game started off with a little back and fourth action, and played out the first 20 minutes scoreless. Then in the second period the Bruins going through business as usual had the puck in their own zone, with an aggressive fore check from the Sabers, Matt Beleskey failed to clear the puck and it lead to a scuffle that lead to the puck on Evander Kane stick, with an open net and a shot he simply does not miss, resulting in a 1-0 lead for the Sabers. The Bruins fought hard to regain momentum and they did Beleskey made up for his mistake finding the back of the net tying the game at 1 a piece. The Bruins keep going in the second and off of a hard Brad Marchand slap shot, Patrice Bergeron had an outstanding effort to tip the puck in giving the Bruins a 2-1 lead, one that they would hold onto going into the break.

Continuing the momentum, the Bruins began the third coming out hard and it had seemed that the Sabers, had no match for them, and David Krejci scored with the help of Loui Eriksson. Now that the Bruins seemed in a very good place, in the third period with a two goal lead, the Sabers knew that they needed to start something. They did and once they did, they never stopped scoring until the last seconds with two empty netters, completely destroying the Bruins in the third period, which turned into an embarrassment. At the end of the game Jack Eichel had two goals along with a pair of assist, giving you your number one star of the game. Ryan O’Reilly also had two goals for the Sabers.

The Bruins look to get back on their feet after losing their previous two, by facing the Ottawa Senators today, Sunday, the Bruins have a home and home with the Senators the next few days as Ottawa will come into town Tuesday, as everything seems to be building for Friday’s Winter Classic at Gillette Stadium against the Montreal Canadians. The Bruins do sit in a good spot in the standings however, with many games left to play, currently tied for third with the Florida Panthers at 42 points, both only trailing the two first place teams, the Red Wings and Canadians, by simply one point.
