The Oakland Raiders are searching for their general manager of the future, and they appear to be pursuing a popular NFL Network analyst that is known for his knowledge of the draft.
Mike Mayock, who has no coaching or front-office experience, is emerging as a “strong candidate” to fill the GM position, according to a report by NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. Not only that, the team has already interviewed him.
A strong candidate has emerged in the #Raiders’ GM search: Mike Mayock. Sources tell me and @RapSheet the @nflnetwork draft analyst has interviewed with Oakland. He’s one of a few, as the Raiders have kept their interviews quiet. But he’s firmly in the mix.

Given that Garafolo and Mayock currently work together, and they have the same employer, it’s pretty clear where the information came from. It’s highly likely that Mayock was the source of the information.
Still, it’s interesting that the Raiders are looking to hire personnel that have either been out of football for a long time — such as head coach Jon Gruden — and people that have no experience for the position at hand, like Mayock.
Sure, Mayock is a draft expert, but breaking it down for TV is a lot different than building a roster for a team. Pairing him with Gruden would be an interesting combo for sure, so we’ll be monitoring this situation.
